Risks and barriers

We are aware that we are not operating in a perfect environment, and that there are a number of obstacles we need to overcome if we are to succeed in our efforts.

The following risks and barriers need to be consistently prioritised, monitored and addressed:

Different levels of cultural maturity exist across our company

At times, our organisational culture is not aligned with the in-country culture of our various operations

icon

At times, our operations face initiative fatigue: we sometimes do too many things at once

icon

We need to be realistic about what we can achieve over any particular time period. Other dependencies and business imperatives also need to be considered

icon

We need to ensure demonstrated leadership and commitment to diversity at all levels of our organisation

icon

We must enable sound decision-making on employment, remuneration, development and progression of staff

icon

We need to constantly influence the hearts and minds of staff

As we go about examining and addressing these risks and barriers, we realise that our leaders are responsible for creating inclusive working environments on an ongoing basis. This is underpinned by the belief that a diverse and inclusive culture is not about compliance – it is an ethical imperative.
